Our Rationale
Experiences in early childhood, are important as help children build the rest of their lives and it is vitally important to get it right for all children. Through providing a happy, safe, stimulating and challenging range of learning opportunities and experiences; love for the outdoors; developing relationships with children, parents and partners; and ensuring a caring, happy and inclusive setting. We will help all children to reach their potential regardless of their starting points.
We pride on ourselves on having highly trained staff, who are always learning to improve the learning outcomes for our children. They are just as important, as our children, their well-being help to create a happy environment for everyone. With a family like atmosphere which helps in-still the foundation of love, care and passion each individual requires for a healthy start to life. We will help all children to develop into active, resilient, confident, and independent learners who have a passion for the outdoors. With the knowledge, skills, characteristics, attitudes, and love of learning necessary to continue that learning throughout their lives, as they transition to Primary school.
We will do this by:
· Learning through play
· Developing warm relationships and initiating high quality interactions
· Working with parents/carers
· Providing an enabling & stimulating environment
· Ensuring the high profile of outdoor learning with structured forest schools sessions
· Planning and providing personalised learning
Observations
Observations including photographs and videos are uploaded onto the child’s learning journey on our Family app.
Assessments
We carry out summative assessments on the children twice within the academic year. Alongside parents evenings and in depth handovers after your child’s day at nursery.
The Three I’s
As recently highlighted within the updated OFSTED handbook, we at Greenwoods know the importance of creating intentions to extend children’s learning. We then implement our intentions within the nursery and assess the impact it has had on both the children and the nursery as a whole.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is used within Greenwoods to plan, observe and assess the children, ensuring their individual needs are met. Our setting follows the 4 main principles of the EYFS ensuring that:
Every child is unique
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
Children learn and develop well in an environment where their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and yourself as a parent and/or carer.
The framework covers the education and care of your child within the early years setting, including children with additional needs.
